Helena and Adam

Lodge Farm - 11th May 2024

It is always lovely to design flowers for family and friends. My daughter, Claire, met Helena at school, and they have kept in touch ever since. It was wonderful to watch her tie the knot along with Claire and my granddaughter, Hazel. (Keep an eye out for pictures pf Hazel along the way.

As usual, I would like to thank Nicola Mackrill for allowing us to share her wonderful, candid photos, which showcase our flowers in the most magnificent fashion. A special mention also goes to Ali Martin for her beautiful hair & makeup on the day & The Three Birds Bakery for trusting us with flowers for their delicious cake!

The day was held at Lodge Farm, a wedding barn in the heart of North Yorkshire. Helena & Adam tied the knot in The Brick Barn & enjoyed canapés in The Courtyard, celebrated with family & friends in The Grain Shed.

When I first discussed the wedding flowers with Helena, the venue was the start of our inspiration. She envisioned a wild country garden look, featuring numerous smaller-headed flowers and abundant greenery to complement the rustic ambience of the venue.

Helena also drew inspiration from some of our previous weddings. She liked delicate bud vases used on the top table, and loved the statement of the ceremony arch and milk churns.

I always start by discussing the bridal bouquet. The pictures below are the inspiration Helena and I discussed, the first two are images she sent to me and the final one from our portfolio.

Her vision was to use lots of greenery, so when creating her colour palette, I started with these tones and added the lighter blue of 'Blue Bell' Pantone and the richer 'Dutch Blue'. I then coupled these with two cream tones, which would soften the look and add to the countryside wedding feel.

Once we had agreed on these tones we discussed which flowers within these tones could create the meadow-like, wild country garden look we were looking to create

The flowers above are ivory Astrantia, Blue Eryngium Magnetar Qstar, Pale Blue Oxypetalum Coeruleum, White Lisianthus Rosita White, White Phlox White Cap, White Rose Avalanche, Blue Pale Delphinium, Mint Green Eucalyptus Baby Blue, Green Thlaspi Green Bell, White Antirrhinum, Green Asparagus Plumosus, White Tanacetum Single Vegmo, and Blue Nigella.
